Apart from that at times pets can be affected by pests they are a good companion and most people love to keep them in their homes. The pests that affect these pets depend on the season and the place a person lives. Some of the pests that will affect the pets are fleas which actually can be a big problem. In warmer climates fleas can be a concern all year long. A concern for the pets and family health they usually are. The pests can give a person together with their pets a resting time in colder climates but that does not mean that they will not be back. Since they will always look for their next home during such times they will actually be back during the warmer season.
A lot of health concerns for the pets are caused by the fleas and they include; anemia, flea allergy dermatitis an many more. In pets such as dogs and cats flea allergy dermatitis is a very common disease which is associated with flea bites. A lot of itching and scratching is caused by the skin disease in pets and in turn leads to hair loss. Anemia on the other hand is also associated with flea bites. In an animal signs of anemia can be; weariness, pale skin, chills and shortness of breath. By avoiding the pets from full infestation from the flea maybe during peak seasons can help in achieving a lasting impact towards the animals’ health and happiness. The signs that one’s pet has fleas infestations can be noticeable skin problems such as hair loss, hot spots and rashes. The saliva from fleas can cause if the pet suffers from serious allergic reactions. Usually this is a common sign of fleas in any animal.
Flea dirt can result to black peppered spots on the fur or the skin of the animal. The flea dirt is a combination of the flea waste and blood that develops as the fleas bites and sucks blood out of the pets. Flea dirt will leave a brownish-red stain if one passes a moist towel over it and therefore if a person is not sure whether the spots are flea dirt they can pass a moist towel over it. The other sign that an animal is infested with fleas is excessive chewing and scratching. The saliva that is secreted by fleas causes an itching sensation on the animals skin which results to a lot of scratching. Scratching can cause the skin of the animal get to injured and have wounds and also can cause flea allergy dermatitis and other secondary bacterial skin infections because of the open wounds on the skin.
